Layne Coleman has spent a lifetime as an actor, playwright, director and producer. His contribution to the growth and richness of Canadian theatre is immeasurable. As the long-time Artistic Director of Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto, Canada’s oldest alternative theatre, he left a legacy of work that launched the theatre on a path to the creation of over five hundred new Canadian plays during its decades of existence. In recognition of his work with TPM, Layne received the Silver Ticket Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Toronto Alliance For The Performing Arts as well as the 2005 George Luscombe Award which recognizes an individual for outstanding mentorship in performing arts. In recent years, Layne has been busy on a number of fronts including acting and received the 2022 Dora Award for Outstanding Performance by an Individual for True, Project Undertow.
In 2016 Layne worked with Festival Director Randy Glynn to create a dance theatre piece for the Company of Angels called “Lighted Rooms”. This work received its formal premiere at FODAR in 2017.
