Dancer / Choreographer
Lydia Zimmer is a graduate of Walnut Hill School for the Arts (’07) and The Boston Conservatory (BFA ‘11). Since returning to her home city of Halifax, Lydia has created several works supported by Canada Council for the Arts and Arts Nova Scotia. These include Bonne Nuit (2016), presented through Live Art Dance; Embankment, commissioned (2017) and remounted (2021) by Votive Dance; Sonderlings (2018), commissioned by Nostos Dance Collectives, and Sonderling (2019) and EXTREMOPHILE (2021), both presented by Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal (FODAR). She also created Mercurials (2022), a new work to mark Mocean Dance’s 20th Season Anniversary performance Fluid Forms.
Lydia completed a dance residency at Nes Artist Residency in Skagastrond, Iceland (2017), and a choreographic residency in Sofia, Bulgaria at the Derida Dance Centre (2018). She also attended the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity’s Creative Gesture: Collective Composition for Music and Dance (2019). Additionally, she completed a Dance Artist in Residency in December 2021 at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, which will lead to the premiere of a new work in the Spring of 2023. Lydia is currently working with Rebecca Lazier (Princeton, NJ) on Everywhere the Edges. She has also been commissioned by Little Pear Garden Dance Company (Toronto, ON) to create a duet for a dance film which will be released in November of this year.
Lydia is thrilled to be back at FODAR for the fourth season in a row!
