Eleanor van Veen


Choreographer – Market Dances – A Study on Pushes and Pulls

Eleanor van Veen (she/her) is a dancer, collaborator, and instructor based out of Tkaronto (Treaty 13 Territory). Eleanor received her professional dance training at The Conteur Academy (Etobicoke, ON) and has worked with prominent educators and choreographers who include: Hanna Kiel /Human Body Expression, Alysa Pires /Alysa Pires Dance Projects, Roberto Campenella and Robert Glumbek /ProArteDanza, Igor Bacovich and Iratxe Ansa /Metamorphosis Dance, Martha Hart / hART Dance, Malgorzata Nowacka-May / The Chimera Project, as well as Naishi Wang, Aria Evans, and Susana Pous.

Reaching across North America, she has performed at Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, Capezio Ace Awards, The Toronto Fringe Festival, the response’s Dance Café series, and Dance Ontario DanceWeekend. She has been a member of Tkaronto based groups: Nostos Collectives (2018-present), ProArteDanza (2020-present), ACE Dance Theatre (2019-present), and The Garage (2017-2020).

In early 2020, Eleanor was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble” for DanceWorks CoWorks / Human Body Expression’s Resonance. Acting as a vessel for her own and her collaborators’ artistic visions, she recognizes her privilege to freely move; and, she is a vigorous, efficient, precise, supple, and curious mover who excels in contemporary, floor-work, partnering, improvisation, and contemporary-ballet.
